Beethoven, Mozart, some jazz and rock songs.
Is this a concert in some music hall?
Oh no, it’s just someone receiving a call.
It used to be easy to make a phone call,
you now need a master’s to fathom it all.
And every two years we trade our phones in
for the newest models that shimmer and spin.
At one time plain black was the standard hue,
now we have red, pink, green, purple, and blue.
Phones have become fine accessories,
sometimes they’re dressed even better than me!
We’ve made them our pets and given them names:
Razr and Chocolate, (I named mine James).
We find them attached to our hands, heads, and ears;
we just can’t be parted from our little dears.
They sing to us, talk to us, and even play games,
show movies and TV, take pictures to frame.
Perhaps I could train mine to take the dog out,
and when I am texting, to clean up my house.
With others we used to chat face-to-face,
but now with these cell phones all over the place,
at concerts, at movies, at churches we see,
a big sign that says: “Turn your cell phones off, please.”
I wonder if heaven has got any bars,
or if God allows cell phones up there in the stars?
And so when I die, in my coffin I lay,
just in case, do not take my dear cell phone away.
