A mother is not only the one who gives birth, on the contrary , it’s the one who gives love and care and responsible for rearing. God gives us a good example to follow.
I am reminded of a few portrait of motherhood the bible has afforded us.
Eve the first mother was so named by Adam, NKJV Gen3:2o “because she was the mother of all living”. Being the first had to be a difficult task , after all there was no blueprint or book to follow. Luckily she had God as a guide for he never left them in spite of their disobedience. The example of His agape love is present. God in His infinite grace and mercy, had a plan to redeem and restore mankind since the genesis of sin in the garden. Seth the third son of Adam and Eve is in the genealogy of Jesus the Christ. It is this same unconditional love that mothers
should strive for towards their children and all mankind.
It is of interest that also in Genesis Sarai is the second model of motherhood that has been given to us. Sarai is the first to give credence to God as El-Shaddai, An all sufficient God. At the ripe age of ninety Sarah conceived and birth Isaac.
God said “ and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her.” Gen 17:16 NKJV. God changed her name to symbolize his covenant to
Abraham her husband. Sarah is also in Christ’s family tree.
Mary the mother of Jesus was the epitome of faithfulness to God. From
the time she accepted God’s assignment for her life, she remained faithful to the end when Jesus was crucified. Mary most likely had to bear much criticism for she was unwed at the time she conceived Jesus. There are mothers who have had Children out of wedlock, God has not cast you to the wayside. He knows the only perfect man was Jesus Christ. We serve a God of order who is not haphazard in His ways , not by any means. The plan of salvation through Christ Jesus was mapped out from the time of the fall. Eve, Sarah, and Mary’s chronicles tells us that as mothers we must be obedient to God, never doubt Him, and to be faithful
with what he has destined for our lives. Trust him in all your ways.
The role of motherhood has steadily become more difficult through the ages.
The need for God has become more urgent as we face new obstacles to mothering. Today’s Christian mothers must balance Christianity against ecularism without compromise. Our responsibilities to our children as it relates to God has not changed, but the world as we know it is ever changing. Therefore we must strive to live a God centered life, in hopes that the example will be followed by the coming generations. In those times when motherhood seems unbearable, cry out for His peace that surpasses all understanding. To all mothers: you are blessed and highly favored of God! Have a happy mothers day.
Much grace, much peace, & Godspeed.
