It seemed there were thousands of people gawking and squawking about me.
Who could blame them?
If I were on the outside looking it, I'd be laughing too.
I really believed in what I was saying and doing.
"You said you'd be with me to the ends of the earth."
"Isn't' that what's in the Bible?"
This and a hundred other scriptures and promises raced through my brain.
Feeling like the last believer on earth, I gathered my belongings and turned to
face the onslaught of I told you so's.
"Hey, looser, where's your God now?"
"What's the matter, couldn’t He conjure up a little rain?"
Over and over, I heard the same or similar insults.
The parched landscape cracked beneath my feet as I trudged forward toward my
car.
The short distance seemed like a hundred miles.
"If you were not going to keep your promises to me, why'd you have to let so
many people see it?"
Finally, my car; I climbed into it like it was a sanctuary.
I closed my eyes and spoke out loud.
"Haven't I been faithful?"
"Didn't' I do what you told me to do?"
"Where's the rain?"
"I told these people that it was going to rain because you sent an angel to
tell me."
"Look at them all. Now they'll never believe in you."
At that moment the ground began to shake.
My eyes popped open.
The crowd instantly became silent.
I looked up; no clouds.
What was making the ground shake like that, an earthquake?
I opened the door and stepped out.
It seemed the disturbance was coming from right beneath me, somewhere deep in
the earth.
Everyone began running away.
I stood there a moment then I ran.
"Okay, I'm sorry. I didn't' mean to make you mad."
At that moment the ground exploded sending dirt and rocks hurdling through the
air.
A column of water six foot in diameter shot a hundred feet into the air.
"Water, it's water!" Someone shouted.
We all made it to what we thought was a safe distance then stopped to watch the
show.
The water quickly filled up the old lakebed and in minutes waves were lapping
at our feet.
People were shouting and laughing.
The children were playing in the water like they had never seen water before.
It was beautiful.
I really couldn't believe what just happened.
I was sure the water was going to come in the form of rain.
At that moment I heard God speak.
God: "You almost made it?"
Me: "What do you mean?"
God: "You doubted."
Me: "Only after it didn't' rain by the time you said there'd be water."
God: "I said there would be water; I did not say it was going to rain."
Me: "I'm embarrassed."
God: "Don't be; some of the greatest men in the world have stood where you
are."
Me: "I'll never doubt you again; no matter what the situation looks like."
God: "We'll see. Just listen to exactly what I say and don't add to or take
away from it."
Me: "Hey, I've heard that somewhere before."
God: "Try looking at the end of my book."
Me: "Ah, that's funny."
