Megan was so excited. Tomorrow was the first day of school. She lay in bed, staring up at a night sky filled with glowing stars and moons. 'The stars are so pretty' she thought, wondering what it would be like to touch one. A knock came from the door. It was mom, coming to tuck her in.

"You have a big day tomorrow. Are you excited? You’re going to have so much fun!"

Megan couldn’t believe that she would be going to school. All she ever heard Debbie and Carl talk about was how much fun they had at school. All those times before, mommy said she would have to wait because she wasn’t old enough. Finally it was her turn.

"I’m a big girl now. I’m ready!"

"Ready you are!" said mom as she tried hard to remember just where the last 5 years had gone.

"Well, let’s say our prayers. You need to get some sleep for your big day."

As Megan lay, looking up at the sky that filled her room, she couldn’t help but ask, "Mommy, why is the sky blue?"

"Well, because God made it that way."

"God made the sky blue? But why blue? Why not orange or red. I like pink. Why couldn’t the sky be pink? It’s my favorite color. Do you think God likes pink? If I could have made the sky, It would be pink."

"Honey I don’t know why he chose blue. I only know that he did."

"But, I don’t understand God. Pink is so much prettier."

"Well. There are many things we don’t understand about God. But what we should always remember is that He loves us and cares for us."

"He loves us all?"

"Yes, sweetie all of us."

"Even the bad people."

"Yep. Even the bad ones."

"Even Kenny from next door? He’s always pulling my hair and calling me names like ‘cry-baby’. He says I act too girlie. You think God loves even him. I dunno. Kenny’s pretty mean. I bet his mom and dad don’t even like him."

"God loves all of us. Even when we make mistakes or do something he doesn’t like. Sometimes we may even feel like bad people. But God still loves us. And many times we don’t understand why things are the way they are. But God asks us to just trust Him."

"You remember when we talked about God and his son Jesus."

"Yes."

"Well, God sent his son Jesus to earth. When Jesus came he saw that the people were not acting very nice. And this upset God. Jesus did all he could to get them to change their ways. Finally he gave his life for them. They buried him. But three days later he rose. Then he went back to heaven to live with God."

"Jesus went to heaven? Where is heaven?"

"Heaven is up there. In the sky."

"In the sky? Oh, that explains it."

"Explains what?"

"Since Jesus lives in Heaven, that’s why God made the sky blue. He did for his son Jesus. You know like when you bought me that pink dress that I love. Blue must be his favorite color."

"You know. You might be right. Now close your eyes its sleepy time."

"Goodnight, mom."

"Goodnight, ladybug. Sleep well."
