I recently attended a Walk to Emmaus. It is a seventy-two retreat spent learning more about God’s love and grace and having a unique personal experience with Him up close. I had highs and lows on that weekend, but walked away feeling clean and refreshed. It was truly a restoration for me. During that weekend I asked God to take all of my doubts and resentments that had been standing in the way of Christian relationship.
That weekend, I felt God's overwhelming love and in doing so, I was able to strip away the walls and find me. I had allowed anger, pain, and resentment build up in me until I had forgotten who I was. Thanks to the friends who encouraged me to take the walk, I was able to remember- to break it all down and find me. I had come to a point where I wasn’t able to see real joy in my life even surrounded daily by people who loved me. Now I see joy in the kids' faces, in choir concerts, in band practice, in my job and in my husband. God has blessed me so much since my walk that I am truly amazed.
It is truly a blessing to know that we have God who loves us enough to meet us where we are. This means that we do not really need opportunities like the Walk to Emmaus if we are willing to give ourselves to the Lord and to not allow distraction. I found that once I returned home, I had to give God time in the morning for a morning devotional, in the evening to read my Bible and all the time I needed for prayer. I needed to surround myself with other Christians and to examine what I watched on TV and listened to on the radio.
Each day needs to be a worship experience for us. In Luke 4:8, Jesus said, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'" In this, He is clearly telling us that in all we do, we must put Him first. We must put Christ before our jobs, money, and our busy-ness. When we put Jesus Christ first and have clarity in our worship, He will meet us where we are and bless us abundantly.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the gift of your son Jesus Christ. We pray for clarity and for focus. Allow us to see Your will and live according to it. We know that sometimes our lives get in the way of hearing and knowing You. Our focus becomes unclear and our worship scattered. Father, we pray that You will bring us back to You and open our hearts. Let us always remember that it your will not our own that we need to strive for and that all of these things will happen in Your time. We pray all these things in the name of our sacrificed lamb Jesus Christ. Amen.
