Luke was blond blue eyed and always smiling. Everyone liked him and he seemed to have numerous friends. I still couldn’t understand why me. I wasn't one of his adoring fans. I wasn’t even pretty.
I sat at the picnic table away from the action. It was here I could sit in solitude. I noticed Luke coming towards me. His ever-present smile lighting up his face.
“Hello Grace,” Luke sat down across from me.
“Hi Luke. Why are you here?”
“When will you realise I like you for you.”
“Why? I am nothing special.”
“Grace I know you aren’t like all the other girls, but that is part of your charm. Your brown eyes are so expressive. I love when you smile. Most of all I love the way you make God first in your life.”
“You believe?”
“All my life, but re-committed myself because of the way the love of God shines out of you.”
You like me because of God’s love?”
“I love you because of God’s love and plan for our lives. Did you ever wonder why we were friends? I believe it was part of God’s plan, we are meant to be together.” Luke was waiting expectantly for me to say something.
“Oh Luke, thank you.” I breathed.
“What for?” Luke asked
I said with a smile, “I was thanking God for sending you into my life.”
