Reading, the possibilities are limitless. You can travel the world without leaving home. You can learn how to cook, sew, make a quilt and many other things just by reading. Yet there I sat looking at the jumble of letters. What was I supposed to do with them? They made no sense to me. I knew it was going to be hard, having had a stroke, I was struggling to re-lean things that had come so easy before. People had told me I was intelligent and that I could do this. Now to prove it! Again I looked at the letters and at the combinations of them. H.a.p.p.y, what did that mean? H.a.p.p.y...Suddenly it exploded in my brain, happy! Happy that was what I was when I realized that the
letters meant something! Happy Birthday! Wow! I was reading now! Excitedly I looked for more words, "from your friends" Yes, Yes! Now all those letters were coming together for me. How important was reading? It had meant so much to me, before the stroke..I called it my lifeline to the world. Now I had regained a skill that I had thought lost to me. It was a great victory! Reading!
Reading! What a joy! I was reading!
