"No offence but this is worst thing you've ever written," my best friend looks at me blankly.
"It's a picture book. I want you to draw the pictures," I tell her.
"Ummmm, Amanda? You're a poet, a novelist, but you suck at children's books. You wrote it in English and alien," Ling pushes the spiral away.
"It's Swahili," I state.
"Swahili? Since when did you know Swahili? Last I checked you passed Spanish by the skin of your teeth," Ling is right. it took everything i had to pass Spanish. I'm smart, just not godd with forgein languages
"I don't. I had a friend online translate it for me," I dash to the living room, grab the sponsorship card, and run back. I hand the card to Ling.
"That is Evens, a six year old boy from Kenya. For just $35 a month he gets clean water, food, and most importantly an education," I say it with pride.
"wait a sec are you saying that Amanda Samson, the queen of wouldn't- give- a- penny- to- save- a- life, is giving money is giving money to a child?" Ling is shocked. She should be. Ever since I jumped from ninth grade to twelfth ten months ago I've saving every penny for college.
No silly, Mo and Dad are giving the money. That's why I wrote this. So he can have a book to read when he starts school," I explain.
"Ohhhhh that is so cool," Ling grabs a pencil and begins to sketch.
