Topic: Writing (01/11/07)
One may ask, “Don’t you mean arthritis, an acute or chronic inflammation of a joint, often accompanied by pain, stiffness and swelling?” Unfortunately, most of us, young and old, may have come subject to this condition. We even gave it a pet name, “Arthur”itis [sic].

Think how significant is our joints. Everything we do is connected by two parts. Isn’t it mind-boggling that one mishap in our skeletal structure will cause a disturbance to separate our joints? We can’t function with a broken toe or foot, a dislocated knee, elbow or shoulders. I can’t image the use of my hands if faced with an injury. Without the use of our limbs, we feel useless. A prescription of bed rest and proper medication is required in order for our joints to become mended. Our bones need to be healed in order for it to function properly. Recovery can take place within 6 months to even a year with rehabilitation. Ouch!

As writers, we all have things we want to share that are in our hearts, hence “author-itis” [sic]. If you’re like me, you like to write a draft before typing. Others may write (or type) their thoughts on a computer for now; the “English” mechanics will kick in later. When a thought comes to mind, I can’t help but jot it down and continue writing. Sometimes, I like to research the topic or theme and let the Lord speak to my heart on what to share. Writing is a deep expression of what I want to convey. I originate and create a composition of work for readers to enjoy.

Why do I have “author-it is” [sic]? I want to reveal the goodness of my Creator for he is the “author and finisher of my faith” (Heb. 12:2). What he creates, he will complete. I continue to express my affection upon him for all that he’s done for me. In facing dark times feeling the situation looks bleak, a love song grows in my heart of my absolute confidence in him. My writings, though challenging, are inspirational to encourage someone who has given up all hope.

Writing can be demanding, but I learn let my writings be an art of enjoyment. The thought of obtaining prize monies, fame and fortune is only a thought for the earnest prize is to know that someone’s pain has turn to praise. “My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.” (Psalm 45:1, NIV)

A cute title--I'd have liked to see you explore more thoroughly the parallels between arthritis and author-itis. I didn't quite see the connections.

Your conclusion was very good.

I was attracted by your clever title, and I appreciated your message! I, too, think it would have been very effective if you had explored the similarities of arthritis and author-itis. I loved your closing verse! :)

The title is catchy, and I too believe after the third paragraph the concept of 'authoritis' dimmed but with further exploration the connection is a clever illustration. This topic led my logic and my creativity to an equal place. Your piece is a stimulating balance for the reader to engage.
