Megan had recently started going to the small country church about three miles, as the crow flies, from their house. Last Sunday night she came home in tears after accepting Christ as her Savior. She begged Luke to go with her, but he stubbornly refused. “I will not go to Church then come home and have a beer with dinner like some crazy hypocrite. I’ll go when I’m good n’ ready now DROP IT.” Frightened by his tone of voice and frustrated at not knowing how to reach her husband and make him understand, Megan curled up on the couch and read her Bible.
Luke rand down the hall into the living room, his head down and his arm shielding his face as he hollered Megan’s name.
“Megan! Megan!” no answer came from anywhere that he could hear. The crackle of flames was all that he heard. The heat intensified, the walls became red and seemed to shift. Luke began to feel disoriented. He tried to make his way to the door, but suddenly it was nowhere to be found. He fell to his knees, tears forming and falling down his cheeks leaving a white trail behind. Through the smoke and flames, voices could be heard. “Help me! HELP ME!” Luke tried to scream, but inhaling the smoke had weakened to his voice to a mere whisper. “God help me!” He sobbed as he sat on the floor rocking him self back and forth.
“Luke….Luke…LUKE!” Luke woke up with a start as Megan sat on the edge of the bed, her hand on his shoulder gently rocking him awake. Disoriented, Luke looked around the room. He took in a deep, smoke free breath and gently touched his wife’s face.
“I had the most awful dream. The house was on fire and I couldn’t get out and I couldn’t find you and nobody was there to help me.” Luke’s body shivered, as if trying to rid itself of the awful dream. “I was all alone,” he whispered.
“Luke, sweetie, you're never alone. I’m here and even when I’m not God is. That’s what I was trying to say earlier. People worry about everything they would have to give up for God and church if they become Christians, then they wonder where God is when they need Him most. God is always there, honey, He’s like your own fire-fighter. He protects us from the flames of life and the flames of hell. He loves you even more than I do.”
Luke sat quiet for a moment as the words of his wife sunk in; he looked down and saw the Bible in her hand. “Will you show me what to do?” Megan nodded emotionally as she opened her Bible and began to read to Luke and tears formed in his eyes as he asked God in his heart.

Powerful story.
