LOVE SONG
“Those old Christians are always sticking together. They don’t even think that another person can go to Heaven unless they believe in Christ,” Mona said.
“Yeah, you’re right. What makes them so great?” Rob asked.
“Are you around any? Gone to church or eaten with them?” Jennifer asked.
“Naw, no need. They are loud and clear,” replied Rob.
“How is that? How do you know what they believe?”
“There is always something on the news about them. The judges have to declare what is politically correct and what is not for some of the things they do.”
“Like what?”
“I know. Women’s choice issue or the marriage issues?” Mona responded.
“Yea, good examples,” said Rob.
“Are you saying they don’t have a right to stand for what they believe in?”
“Well, uh. M… Mm. Guess you have a point. I guess I never thought about it like that.”
“Come to think of it I guess the abortion rights people speak their view.”
“Well, to be honest, I guess the gay rights people also,” Rob said.
“We do still have the right to have the freedom of speech.”
“You know, I guess I just never stopped to think about Christians just using their right to speak up. I see their letters to the editor in the newspaper. It makes me angry. I always thought yea there goes one of those holier than thou,” he answered.
“Do you think they think the same when we speak up for women’s rights?” asked Mona.
“Come to think of it, why wouldn’t they. I guess the shoe fits both ways, according to who’s wearing it,” Rob responded.
“I’ve gone to a few of their fun groups. They seem just like you and me. I mean, they have fun, eat, and eat, and eat some more,” Jennifer giggled.
“You mean it? They really have fun? I always thought they were dull,” Mona said.
“Yeah, once I heard a nasty joke told, and the Christian in the group didn’t laugh. They just sat there like a zombie.”
“Don’t you see though, that person was speaking in their own way for what they believe,” said Jennifer.
“Ya, mean they think it is wrong to tell jokes?” Rob sneered.
“No. They tell clean jokes and laugh lots.”
“What’s wrong hearing an off colored joke? Are they too goodie to hear one?” Mona inquired.
“They believe in Christ. I’m sure they think WWJD- what would Jesus do? They try not to offend the One they put their belief in.”
“How does He consider that a sin?” Rob asked. “He isn’t here anymore.”
“Why don’t we just all go to the small group meeting I was invited to and find out?” Jennifer asked. “You have me thinking. I would like to know the answers to some of these things,” Jennifer said.
“Uh . . .h.h, I’m not sure about that,” said Rob.
“Are you afraid?”
“I’m not. I stand up for myself. I’ll go!” Jennifer exclaimed.
“Guess since you put it that way, I’ll tag along.”
Thursday evening found Dan Blake opening the door, “Well, hello Jennifer and friends. We are so glad you could join us. Come right in.”
After introductions everyone took their seats. “Would you share your Bibles?” Dan asked in a polite way. Rob felt a little embarrassed that they didn’t have a Bible and noticed that Dan didn’t make a big deal of it.
“We allow any questions to be asked that anyone has. We look up scriptures to see what God’s answers are. Then we discuss it among ourselves.”
Time flew for the visitors. Once the study was over time was spent in getting to know each other. Rob was offered the possibility of a job. The group was very loving.
Driving home Jennifer said, “I think I’ll go again.”
“The thing I noticed most is everyone showed so much love. They’re just plain old nice. I’d like to go back.” Rob said.
“Me too!” said Mona. “Do you think we’re totally wrong about Christians?”
After attending for several weeks the three visitors gave their heart to the Christ that Christians serve. The main reason they came to believe was because of the love the Christians had one for another. And they extended that love to them. Because of that, they fell madly in love with Jesus.
