Topic: Cross (as in the Cross of Christ) (08/17/06)
(NAS) John 19:17

"They took Jesus therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross..."

How appropriate that Jesus would personally carry His own cross to His own death.

I always imagined that He must have despised that piece of wood. I know I would have. But perhaps He didn't. The cross would come to represent His great compassion and awesome victory. It would become a symbol that would span the ages to come. It would represent His kingdom. It would become our banner. From that day on, the form of ultimate defeat would become the image of everlasting victory. I think He understood all this.

Perhaps at that time, Jesus, the man, didn't know all the pieces of jewelry, icons and weapons that would reflect the image of the wood He was transporting. Though He despised the shame, He knew the significance of what He was doing. The cross was a necessary tool He required. And because of this, He may have not only endured it, but embraced it.

I can picture the Great Champion staring at that cross, authority and passion welling up inside, proclaiming, "You're MINE! I will make of you what I will!" And then carrying it - for His own purposes.

What Satan meant for evil, God turned to good.

Perhaps this is why the cross has become ultimate Christian symbol. Maybe our regard and affection for it is not man-made. Perhaps it comes from the very heart of God.

very good. but a bit short. expand your thoughts. in english i had a hard time making my esaays long enough. so my teacher told me. start with a short answer(what you have) and expand it full length. i think this is good advice for you

I would like to see this longer--set out your points and support them a little more.

From that day on, the form of ultimate defeat would become the image of everlasting victory. This is a really great turn of a phrase!
