I deeply regret having to toil and sweat,
“By the sweat of your brow!” So I’m told,
The curse of a man, through the tilling of the land,
Cast out of the garden of old.
As the story goes on, with each breaking dawn,
Our predicament seems to get worse,
“When will it end? It is God I offend!”
As I read each chapter and verse.
God loves His chosen; His nation at war owes Him,
Respect, more than any could say,
In a land torn asunder, I admit that I wonder,
“How does this work?” Lord, I pray.
“You’ve given the Law, and I stand in awe,
For You’ve told them of love and of grace.”
“Have You not sent Your Son, to bring victory for each one?
And at this they have spit in Your face.
“You’ve parted the sea, You’ve tried desperately,
To show them how Great Your works are,
Flesh You became, to show them Your Name,
And they stand so close, yet so far.”
“A miraculous birth, should show them Your worth,
But instead they just scoffed at the lad,
A carpenter’s son, from Nazareth will come,
Prediction after prediction they’ve had.”
I would not be so bold, to think that Your hold,
On this nation is slipping away,
Your love is too strong, and all the day long,
Your children are still turning away.
Will they ever return, will they ever discern,
The truth of Your love by Your Son?
Will their pride soon decay, may their voice call today,
On their freedom from works they have done.
For the work is complete, on the cross bittersweet,
A sacrifice made just for us,
Faith justified, Just as if I’d died,
By grace in Him dearly I trust.
On that tree nailed fast, are my sins, and they’re cast,
As far as the east is to west,
And His love carries me, to a victorious sea,
That is calm, by the palm of His hand.
His work now is through, nothing left to do,
But to receive His redemption fully paid,
Wars will be fought, in the land where He taught,
Near the tomb where His body was laid.
If you’d only believe, then His mercy will cleave,
For nothing can tear you away,
In the day you except, for your souls He has wept,
And His Spirit moves inside you to stay.
His love is so grand, for you and your land,
But, free will may stand in His way,
He will never force peace, may your enmity cease,
You’re worth more than the earth where you stand.
For liberties sake, it is peace that you make,
Between you and your God, crucified,
Like the Red Sea He will part, the hardness of heart,
While Jesus’ arms are still open wide.
He’s calling to Jews, “Receive the Good News,”
Calling Gentiles over to “The Way,”
He calls out to you and to me tenderly,
And He answers the call… as we pray.
