my husband. All those "firsts" are hurdles.............some more than others.
It all started yesterday as I was getting dressed for church. TV was on and
I was listening to a Dr. Stanley of Atlanta. The essence of his message was
this:
God created man because He was lonely. He wants to interact in our lives.
He wants us to talk to Him. He also wants us to "LISTEN" to Him and FOR Him.
Man is often lonely and troubled for various reasons, too numerous to
mention. What do we do when that occurs? We, as Christians, turn to God in
prayer. We talk to God, but do we really listen?
I was struck by that in and of itself. Off and on yesterday I thought about
that and took inventory of my prayer life and decided that I was doing too
much talking to God and I was just not listening enough. I walk every
morning and this a.m. as I headed out, I decided to just invite Jesus into
my heart and mind as I walked and to just focus and see how He came to me.
It was an amazing 45 minutes.............I was determined to stay focused
all of the time and not let my thoughts stray. (My minister calls straying
thoughts during prayer, "Satan Static").
I must tell you that God came to me in "my awareness" of sights, sounds,
smells and thoughts first and foremost. As I walked, I asked God to somehow
make me aware of His presence..................two geese flew overhead. I
asked God to let me feel His presence................a gentle breeze caused
a tree to bow its limbs. I asked God to let me hear
Him................raindrops in the gutter suddenly were a beautiful sound
along with birds singing background. I asked God to make me more
thankful...........someone walked by and smiled. I asked God to make me more
mindful of simple things.................a sensation of the air I was
breathing in suddenly seemed more crisp and clean in smell. I asked God to
make me more mindful of what others do for us..........a constable and his
vehicle were seen crossing the intersection some distance ahead. I asked God
to make me more thankful for how far man has come in what we
know........................a lawn person backed his tractor off his
trailer. I asked God to help me be more thankful for the freedoms we
enjoy....................an American flag on a home suddenly waved in the
breeze. I asked God to give me more of an awareness of His ability to be in
control..............a plane appeared overhead and winged through the
clouds. I asked God to help me appreciate others.................I walked
down my street and thought of my wonderful neighbors who care each for the
other. I asked God to let me know that my home and family were truly
blessed.................I walked into my drive and was made to feel
immensely thankful for every single minute of my existence on this earth and
that God has truly smiled on me and mine even in the midst of past
adversity. I felt assured that nothing ever changes with God for "God Is".
You ask me how I know?............................I have HIS WORD!
My walk was done. I had just spent 45 minutes focused solely on
God....................I listened and I was aware of His presence. I was
assured that He indeed spoke to me in my awareness. I was no longer lonely.
Loneliness took me to God................My soul was nourished in the
process.
Try it . You will be blessed.
