THE GREAT CLOUDS
I am yearning for those men whose voices are great within me;
Where can I find those Christ-like men of old?
Those independent men, sold to sorrows;
Course men, ruddy, not rude;
Mystical men, beholders of Mystery;
Rich men, free of purse or pension;
Men of Spirit bereft of obsession;
Passionate men without perversion;
Royal men with golden crowns,
Carrying crosses, bearing love.
Tell me Church, where are they, these grand men, meek and mild?
Where are the doers of small things in great love?
Soul-feeders from baskets simpler fare;
Mountain-movers with the fruit of mustard seeds;
Demon-chasers by the power of a Word;
Death-robbers by the force of fragile faith;
Those common clouds with greatness thrust within them,
Who live by dying, standing on their knees;
The truly good men who measure their greatness
by the love they leave behind.

I have my off-days... but the kind of man you describe here is basically what I try to be.
