Life; have we attained it?
Where is it to be found?
Is it gaining all your heart’s desires?
Treading men into the ground?

It has nothing to do with breathing,
Or blood coursing through the veins.
That which I speak of has a quality,
It is a conscience cleansed from stains.

It is what the world can’t give us,
It is peace, joy; true prosperity.
It is love in wild extravagance,
All of grace and wonderfully free.

Could it be, serving number one
Negates the happiness we crave?
Amassing heaps of this world’s goods
Won’t help beyond the grave.

Live for others, lose yourself,
To lose all is to gain.
Consider Him who gave up all
To free you with His pain.

It was not for His own comfort
That the King of Glory came,
It was to serve humanity,
Not to make Himself a name.

And yet in His humility,
He gained the highest place.
Life is not found in seeking self,
But in seeking Jesus’ face
