When he found him he asked the wise man out of curiosity, ‘why do you share this knowledge with other people and why not retain it for yourself?’
‘I share this knowledge because when a man is wise to his own advantage the fruits of his knowledge are seen only in his own person; but when a man is wise to the peoples advantage the fruits of his knowledge are enduring, that is how I have found personal peace’ he answered
‘What must I do to find personal peace?’
‘Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in all humility count others to be better than you. Do not look only to your own interest but also to the interest of others’
‘If I do all this to find personal peace will I really be happy?’
‘In finding personal peace, there is gladness of heart and this is the very life of man, personal peace prolongs his days. Distract yourself, renew your courage, drive resentment from you, for lack of personal peace has brought death to many, there is nothing to be gained from resentment. Envy and anger destroy personal peace’
‘Is that it, that’s all I have to do?’
‘Talk no more so very proudly and let not arrogance come from your mouth and let all you do be done in love this also you must do to find personal peace’
‘I now know what I must do; I must not repay evil for evil but always seek to do good for one and all. I shall rejoice always, pray constantly and give thanks in all circumstances. For this is the will of God for me and the path to finding personal peace’
