Topic: Start (01/16/06)
There are days when I awake much too early and find that my mind enjoys dealing me the failures and follies of yesterday. It is there that I find beginning my day much too overwhelming. As I fight to renew the hopes and dreams I held onto the night before, I call out to the only “day starter” I have ever been able to rely on. He reminds me that, “His mercies are new every morning,” and “nothing can separate me from His love.” At that moment my heart fights to tell my head who is boss and I slip softly back to finish the rest I had begun.

Jesus promises hope eternal that begins here, right where we are. It is my longing to remember more quickly His words when I awake and draw from the living waters of His word. When the darkness of the soul screams more loudly than the Light of the truth, it is our responsibility to run to Him. If we could but remember the praise and adoration that David expressed in the Psalms, we too would find our “joy in the morning.”

So, it is our challenge to begin our day not in the losses or victories of yesterday, but with the fresh ponderings of the Spirit of God and His precious promises. My prayer is that you will find your hope in Him and begin today with heaven in your heart.

Indeed His mercies are new every morning.
I loved the last bit most"... and begin today with heaven in your heart."
The part I quite didn`t understand, is the last bit of paragraph one;"... to finish the rest I had began."

This is a really lovely. It reminds me of the short devotionals I read every morning. Your point is so very real. How often do we all look back and only see the negative! Thanks for your writing.

This is a very nice devotional.
Good reminder of how we should begin our day. I liked the phrase 'I call out to the only “day starter” I have ever been able to rely on.' Thanks for sharing.
