Last year, my mother passed away, she was with us for 79 years, and her life was full and enriching. Friends will remember her for years, as she touched the lives of many. She continued to work, even up to the end, and many of her younger associates thought of her as Grandma.
The first day I walked into her home after she left us, was the day I completely became an adult. All things of childhood passed away with her. Reality set in; no longer was there anyone to guide me, watch over me or comfort me. I was alone.
Times such as these may bring out the best or the worst in people. My mother’s death brought back those childhood memories that gave me much comfort. She taught me to strive for a positive outlook on every event, especially the sad and trying ones. I walked through her home, missing her, remembering her. Then I remembered her teaching that I am never truly alone, that I have a comforter that travels with me, through my joys and trials, always keeping me.
My Savior, Jesus, promised He would never leave me. Believing that not only would He care for me, but also that He was already caring for my mother. This thought brought comfort and hope in this desolate time. She left one final lesson for me, to remember Jesus, the One who will fortify us and comfort us for all time.
Considering all things since her death, I find that yes; it was the end for certain things, but the starting point for many others.
