Ah! How wonderful to lay in the grass and feel the warm sunshine. The breeze is gently blowing through the trees and keeping me cool. I can hear the children playing at the playground, they sound so happy. I think I will take a little nap, right here at the park.
What a nice rest, I better be about my business now. So many things to do and so little time, what to do first! Oh, I see some flowers that I must smell. Oh, they are so wonderful!
“Shoo! Shoo! Get out of the flowers! They were not planted to be stepped on!” a lady says as she pushes me out of the flower bed.
Ok, ok, I guess those flowers weren’t planted to be smelled. What else can I do? Let’s see, I spy a little creek running across the park, I think I’ll mosey over and see what it’s all about.
Oh, look at the fish, I bet I can catch one, easy! Splash! They are faster than I had anticipated, I’m going to chase them and see were they go.
“Hey! Get out of the water! You are scaring all of the fish away! Get out of there! Go on, look at you, you are covered with mud, yuck!” the boys holding long poles do not look too pleased with me. I’ll get out of the muddy water and shake myself off.
Look, a ball! I love balls! Maybe the children will let me play. Here, I will catch this one, it’s coming right to me! Got it!
“Drop it! That’s our ball! You can’t play with us. Give us back our ball!” the children yell as they run after me. Ok, I got the message, here’s your silly ball, I’ll leave you alone!
Well, I guess I’ll just go home. Nobody seems to want me here. They like me at home. Hey, where is home? I can’t remember how I got here. All I see as I look around are trees, lots of them. There are trees everywhere, which ones will take me home?
“Rufus! Rufus! Where are you?” I hear someone calling me. It sounds like my family. “There you are! You silly little dog! You are a muddy mess, it looks like you have been on quite an adventure! Let’s get you home.”
Oh, goody, I get to ride in the car, my favorite! I want the window seat!
Oh, I love my family. I love my little bed here by the lounge chair. I am really sleepy after my big day. I had a lot of fun today with the exception of my bath, but it’s much better here. They love me and are nice to me. I don’t think I will ever leave home again or at least for a long while! Good night!
