Past memory's randomly return to haunt me. Future worries that are understandably of concern, suddenly seem insignificant. And, even death itself becomes nothing more than an unavoidable appointment, to which I know not when or where I will be summonsed.
Through all of this, the overwhelming feeling is that this life, this world, this wicked and cruel place that I currently inhabit is not my home.
I can move house, I can change jobs, and I can have all the material possessions that money can buy, but no matter what I possess, and no matter how much I earn, there is always an empty feeling inside of me that longs to go home.
You may think that this all sounds very melancholic and sad, and your right, it does.
However, this feeling of not belonging anywhere is biblical, and this deep longing to go to our heavenly home isn't suicidal or melancholic, its natural.
Corinthians 5:6 ~ Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
This is the deep longing that I speak of, and this is the desire that so many of us feel each day when we hear of untold numbers of unutterable cruelties on the news and radio.
And yet, we know that until The Lord God calls us home, he would have us stay here and be ambassadors for him. He would have us preach and teach the truth of Christ here on earth.
This life seems so long, complicated and laborious at times, but Gods word puts its real importance into perspective for us.
James 4:14 ~ Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Our life truly is but a vapour, and we must make best use of the time that we have here on this earth.
Colossians 4:5 ~ Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
This doesn't mean that we need to spend every moment of our day in Church, for we are not called unto salvation to be merely pew warmers and church attendee's.
Making the most of our time by biblical example is bringing the real gospel of Christ to the lost and lonely.
So, for whatever time it is that we have left, let us bring the truth of Christ crucified to all that we meet.
And remember, next time you feel that deep longing to go to your heavenly home, read the verse below and be encouraged by it.
Hebrews 10:37 ~ For yet, a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
