Mia’s Song

No temptation has overtaken you except such as its common to man; But God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what your are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
1Corinthians 10:13 NKJV

Angie, Celeste and Mia are sitting outside of Mia’s yard discussing how Mia’s dealing with the tragedy in her life.

Celeste
Mia, I am so sorry about the loss of your mother. Though you have gone through so much you still have joy.

Mia
Celeste, it’s because of my Heavenly Father I am able to smile through my adversities. You see in times of trouble it’s Him that provides a way of escape. He’s my fortress and my hiding place.

Angie
Mia, I read a poem the other day in your tablet and it was saying the very same things you are saying now.

Mia
It’s my song Angie. I realized that when we are going through, if we allow God to, he’ll give us a song to bring about a healing in our lives. He’ll give us a praise that will bring joy in times of sorrow.


Celeste,
That’s so true Mia. Though I know I’m new to this walk I’ve found that if I get into the Fathers presence when I’m down, I’ll began to sing a song and it will lift me up every time.

Mia
Amen girl. It’s getting me excited right now just thinking about it.

Angie
Mia, have you thought about putting music to your song? God has blessed you with an awesome voice and it’s time you start using it to bless Him and others.

Celeste
Well, I’ve not been blessed with the opportunity to read this poem or song Mia. I’d love to hear it.

Mia
Give me a minute, let me go into the house and get it. And to answer your question Angie, “yes I’ve put some music to it”.

Angie
Celeste I can’t wait for you to hear this, it’s so beautiful, and I can’t wait for Mia to start using the voice God has blessed her with. The pastor has been asking me if she has any plans of joining the choir.

Celeste
Angie, I can’t say it enough; both you and Mia have been a blessing to me. I’ve not said anything but there’s so much turmoil in my family that it’s been really getting me down. It’s been so tempting to just give up. But hearing you and Mia share what you’ve been through and seeing how you’ve stood no matter the situation, has really encouraged me.
(Mia, is standing at the door listening to the conversation and walks over and sits near Celeste)

Mia
Celeste, let me tell you something. The word of God tells us that He won’t put more on us than we can bear. It gets tempting to give up when things come, but God won’t let us be overtaken by temptation. He’s faithful Celeste. Just when it seems like I’m tempted and can’t take anymore, He’ll make a way of escape for me every time.

Angie
That’s right Celeste, and He’ll do the same for you. God knows better than we do when we’ve had enough and can’t bear anymore.

Celeste
I hear you and I’m so thankful to the Father for blessing me with such wonderful friends. Okay Mia, were ready to hear this song.

Mia
Okay ladies, here it is.


I can run to You when I’m in distress,
I trust in You for You give me peace.
I escape in You, You’re my happiness
My Father You’ve become my Fortress.

When troubles come and I feel alone,
I find myself wrapped up in Your arms.
You are my escape, You’re my home,
You’re my Father, my Love, and my fortress.

When I find myself wrapped in my grief,
Where else would I go; to my hiding Place.
To escape in you Lord and I find my peace,
My Father you’ve become my Fortress.

(Angie and Celeste find themselves in tears)

Celeste
Mia, that’s so beautiful. I just pray that you continue to allow God to use you. There are so many others that are going through and I know God is going to allow you to be a blessing while telling others how God made a way of escape for you even in your grief.

I liked the song:) I had a little trouble with the dialogue and believing it to be the way someone might talk. But I thought overall that the way you laid this out worked and I could see it being used in a youth group. Keep writing!:)

I agree, try reading this outloud, or even acting out the play.

Get into character to help you write effective dialogue.
