Topic: ARTIFICIAL (08/11/16)
One wonders about personal inertia. About being a step too late. About the fender bender that may not have happened if only I'd left the house 2 minutes earlier. About being late for that all important interview. Both of which happened this fine morning.
Bad timing, in this time of life, in this fast paced society, can be detrimental. Everything seems to be timed to the minute, and counted to the dime. Opportunity races just beyond reach, and it's just the way things go sometimes.
Nursing a bruised elbow, fender, and ego, I resigned myself to arriving 20 minutes past my scheduled time to interview for a job that I really wanted with Corporation EXX. A position I'd prayed for. It kept me up the night before. The anticipation. The half dream thoughts and conversation complete with questions and answers from an interviewer whom I'd never even met.
Of course, devotions the next morning were more like a Hail Mary pass than thoughtful time spent in the word and in prayer.
My frenetic morning pace had me sprinting past the scripture, "Jesus, if you had been here, my brother would not have died." I quickly thanked God for the familiar end of the story and simultaneously picked a tie to wear in my mind.
Here it is, mid afternoon and my Bible is still open to the passage in John 11. The events of the morning are finally fading and I'm picking up where I left off. The plaintive statements from Martha and her sister Mary concerning the ill timed arrival of their Master and Teacher troubles me. Verse 32 really gets me though as Mary falls at Jesus' feet, moving Him deeply. I'm starting to get it and bow my head to resume a deeper devotion. Though Jesus was officially 4 days late, he saw God's subsequent glory and suffered along with Lazarus' sisters and friends on his way to raise a dead man. Not to be compared to the unfolding biblical drama, my plaintive cry is also answered by His "I am the resurrection and the Life. He who believes in me shall live, even if he dies. Do you believe this?"
Not always sure of life's turns and twists. Sometimes responsible for a step too late and my own inertia, faith is yet renewed. Jesus is moved deeply enough to care for me. Be a resurrection for me, to say of me, "Unbind him and let him go."
I'm aware that Corporation EXX may not call. I will take steps to ready myself for another opportunity. If they do, It'll be a call to a man who is free and unbound.

A real life story with a message but was it still in God's timing.

For easier reading for us, skip one more line between paragraphs.

It felt like this piece was as hastily written as your morning adventure with your car, but then, I don't know.

Yes, I felt "in a hurry" reading this narrative - but that may have been your clever scheme. Very creative, and I do agree, a space between paragraphs would be a good idea...
