Larry Stephenson trudged past the old church on Steubenville Pike Road. He felt so lonely in the world as he was in seventh grade, and not popular at all. His life at home was embarrassing as he had no man to help him with how to be responsible in life. He lived with his birth mother, and her lesbian lover. The both warned him to stay away from that church as bad things would happen to him inside. One time when he was seven they walked past the church, and Larry saw a Coral Snake slither out from the grass of the church, and his birth mother Emily said "See there's snakes in that church. It was a snake that brought down the world, and made everyone so evil." Then her lover Grace said "You need to stay away for if you go inside you shall die." Larry never heard anything so ridiculous, and there was never any talk about God in their home.
Grace taught Larry that it was because of the church that there was evil. It's the church's fault because they failed to love with their hearts whole and completely. They called everyone sinners except themselves. That everyone who didn't go inside the church would have to wait for the anointed one who would talk to the aliens disguised as scorpions, and command them to stop hurting those who didn't go in the church because they were the good people. Then when the aliens disappear those who didn't go in the church would pledge allegiance to the anointed one by getting a tattoo on his/her head, or right hand. This freaked Larry out, and what's more Emily and Grace were secretive about who his birth father was. Once in exasperation Grace yelled at Larry that his father is one of the evil ones. He's in the church, and is leading the church.
Larry began looking up at the sky, and saw that it was about to rain. He still had a half mile to go before he got to his house, and his loneliness until Grace and Emily got home from work. However, there was no place to hide outside from the rain that was going on. He saw the sign where it said "Revival Services all week." He just prayed that the door was open because that was another thing that Grace taught Larry "The church doors for the most part were always locked, and closed tight, so no one could enter whenever they needed to. Larry tried the door, and to his surprise it was unlocked, and he can open it, so he walked inside. There were people sitting, and the man at the front began quoting Psalm 34:8 "Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him." Then a woman came back to Larry, and gave him a hug, introduced herself as Sandra. Larry was surprised, but accepted the hug. He asked Sandra if there were snakes in the church.
Grace and Emily arrived home early, and found no Larry at home. After checking everywhere they called the police. Meanwhile Larry listened to the sermon, and found out that Grace and Emily had lied to him all those years. After the service was over Sandra noticed how much Larry looked like the Pastor. Sandra introduced Larry to the Pastor, and said that the Pastor was her husband. The Pastor looked Larry over, and said "My son." Larry was confused, and the Pastor said he was married to Emily, but she divorced him because Emily wouldn't give up her lover Grace. Larry told Sandra and Pastor about the teachings that Larry was exposed. Sandra was crying harder hugging Larry. This was the first time Larry felt such love from anyone. The Pastor named Holden suggested he call his parents.
Grace and Emily were frantic wondering where Larry was. However, not out of love. Suddenly the phone rang. It was Larry their faux concern turned to anger when Larry told them he was at the church. Arriving at the church Emily grabbed Larry. However, Sandra pushed her away, and told her not to touch Larry like that again. Grace glared at Larry, and asked if he wanted to stay. He said yes, but Emily's flesh would not be satisfied until Holden pay fifty thousand dollars for caring for his son. Holden paid them, and Grace and Emily walked away. Larry hugged and kissed them both.
