ICU=I see you
At an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), I am looking at my beautiful wife, Luanne, both in her look and character. I am sure the great I Am will say I see you too. Standing there, I petition to the Father that she will walk out of the situation without mental and physical blemishes just like Daniel's three friends. Today is her third day at the ICU. She's been unconscious and under light sedation.

Two days ago, I was traveling on the Subway , on my way to give private tuition .I was interrupted by a phone call from my wife, asking me to come home immediately - she fainted just now! My heart sank and anxious to find out more from her.

On arriving home, I saw her sitting upright, eyes closed, hands shaking, speaking in a distinct firm voice. I remembered her telling my daughters and me, not to worry about money and my daughters’ to respect the daddy’--as if she was issuing her final instructions. Her whole body was numb or paralyzed.

After half an hour, the paramedic arrived and decided to rush her off for an emergency. During the course of the journey, I heard these sad words" if I am wheelchair- bound , don't save me ; give me an injection ( euthanasia), and let me go". My eyes were moist with tears as I reflected over the wedding vow made 21 years ago- "I promise … In sickness and in health." How can we not take it seriously?

In retrospect, I am amazed at God’s grace. Apparently, she fainted while trying to hang the laundry after work. Her blood vessel must have ruptured and caused the unconsciousness. When my daughter Deborah reached home, she saw my wife approaching the chair. She must have called me and the ambulance even before we got to her. Her arrival at the hospital was indeed timely. Many died instantly; some lapsed into a coma but she has survived to receive treatment until now.

During these three days, I have been encouraged by the prayers from my brothers and sisters that I have come to know over the years. Never have I anticipated such an enormous support for my wife's recovery and family. And never have I felt the tremendous sense of unity and love expressed across God's extended family. Christians from the same church text to other churches in Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. I can't help but muse over these:-

Never have I learned so much from you all
Your prayers help me to see and stand tall
Light instead of darkness ;
Love instead of callousness
Faith instead of fear
Hope instead of despair;
Rhythms of life ; gifts wrapped up in disguise
interruptions of life that are like my wife's
Drawing closer to Love divine as I surmise
They are blessings in kinds and life-giving
Thank you for journeying
You make my life bright
He's our life and our light

We don't pretend to live in an imaginary or a make-believe world but a universe of invisible realities-God, His angels and opposing forces. My sanctified imagination allows me to visualize the Holy Spirit taking hold of our prayers and passing them to the Father, and the Son is interceding for us and with us. I don't need to my eyes to be opened like Elisha's servant Gehazi to see the angels ministering to her needs. Isn't it more blessed to believe without seeing?

Glory be His precious name! I trust this article will inspire you to swell Heaven with prayers for my dear wife Luanne.
