Blink… blink… blink…
My finger lazily drew figure eights with the cursor.
Eight plus eight is sixteen, eight plus eight plus eight is twenty four… I thought as I continued drawing eights. My eyes were beginning to close and my head was slipping off of my hand. BAM! That woke me up, Note to self; don’t trust your hand to hold up your head when you fall to sleep. My head had smashed right into the key board. When I looked up I saw that I written like a four year old who had laid his sticky little fingers on the keys. Well, it’s better than what I had down already. I looked back at my paper and read aloud “Apollo was believed to be the god of music, healing, and archery. He was a dork…” I know, I know, that won’t go over well with my teacher but I am so done with writing I don’t really care. Finals are brutal, couldn’t they just pretend I learned everything in class? I have perfect attendance and… oh its just not worth it, my conscience always pushes out the best in me, stupid conscience.
I press the backspace button a few thousand times to find that little black line blinking at it’s rhythmic pace on an empty page. “Well looks like it’s just you and me again.” I say aloud in hopes that someone would appear out of thin air and help this paper, or even better write it for me. No such luck. I tapped my fingers rapidly on the keyboard but what came from it was even worse than the head banging boggle of words I came up with before.
Frustrated I closed the computer, stood up and stretched. There wasn’t much to see in the 25 by 20 square foot dorm, but I looked around anyway savoring my time away from the computer. The dorm is split into two sides, my side, which was messy and could potentially be a hazardous waste zone, and my room mate Drake’s side...
Let me just be frank, Drake is a nerd. There is nothing else to call it, he is all about computers, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Harry Potter. Which is also pretty much everything I have ignored my entire life -I don’t like it when something gets big and everyone starts talking about it. I‘m very possessive over my interests-so needless to say his side of the room is like a movie set exploded. He has a full size replica of a Cling-On in one corner, various Sonic Screwdrivers spread across his desk, and his bed is adorned with Harry Potter sheets, which is a bit creepy as they are the commercial movie version and they have a ton of very small Harry Potter’s scattered around them. All I’m saying is I wouldn’t want a hundred eyes watching me while I sleep. I shiver just thinking about it.
The one -and probably only- great thing about our room is, it over looks the food court and picnic area. So I can always tell what we are going to have for lunch. It’s kind of amazing. I can be first to line up for Tacos and I can quickly claim the best spot in on the grass. Looking outside I can see everything that’s going on, the music majors are all sitting near a big tree with their guitars. The creative writing crew seem to be in a heated debate, probably about the significance of a leaf or something. The musical theater majors are all singing loudly it looks like, because the dudes with the guitars are giving them glares. I can’t blame them, musicals are a pain. I see the geeks all sitting around a picnic table, (seems like they are discussing Star Trek today, they have a bunch of furry Tribbles on their table… not that I know what a Tribble is…) I always tell Drake he should go hang with those guys, they are totally his group. But he always tells me he’d rather hang out with me. Lucky me.

Good picture of a dorm room and what might go on.
