Topic: Like a Fish Out of Water (10/24/13)
No romance lay behind the beautiful blue eyes that stared back into mine, just mischief, deeply entrenched mischief. The eyelids widened to ensure that my inspection of the darker rings within the outer edge of the irises went unhindered. After a hasty few seconds I turned my eyes back to a related conversation going on with my other friends seated at the table. A "friend," a look, a flutter of my heart and I felt like a fish out of water! What was I to do?

Growing up with fairytale princesses could easily distort a girl's view of what to expect when it comes to the man that she wants to marry. As she grows older the movies may change but the "happily ever after" still occurs in relation to a score of varying plotlines. Girl meets guy. It takes all of a few seconds for her to determine if he is the one that she will be standing with at the altar. A whirlwind romance blossoms overnight and they are married within the year or much sooner. I must say that while I have known couples who lived this to one degree or another the majority don't last.

I met my "friend" about five years ago. I began liking him about two and a half years ago. I'm still waiting to see whether he will be the man that I marry. We've gotten closer in some ways and not in others. At times I've struggled with knowing that I love him when it seems obvious that he'll never love me the same way. Yet, love bears, believes, hopes, and endures all things (1 Corinthians 13:7 KJV). Above all I've had to make sure that it's not just my dreams or an infatuation that keep my heart focused upon him, but it's God's blessing (Psalm 127:1 KJV; Proverbs 4:23 KJV; 1 Corinthians 13:6 KJV). And even then there is so much more to learn.

Thank you for sharing this touching story. I pray that your "story" comes true.

It was poignant with a good message. I hope that this friendship become all that you want it to be and more.

Who knows...maybe your special friend will read this and realize, "gee I never knew!"

Awwwe, this is so dreamy!

I can indeed relate to the "princess fairy tale syndrome." Keep writing.
