“This was a wonderful idea” I said to my husband Tod as we drove into Pigeon Forge Tennessee. It was one of these rare times when just the two of us were able to slip away from the children. The thought of taking the weekend to spend time with my husband gave me all the more reason to be excited about this trip.
We found our hotel and hurriedly placed the items we brought inside and headed back to the car, I had mentioned earlier that it would be nice to have a small picnic within the mountains by the free flowing stream. Once the food was bought we headed up into the Great Smoky Mountains, the weather was nice and warm, just right for an outing for two.
As we began to eat I looked around me seeing so many people had thought the same and was enjoying a peaceful day with their loved ones. My husband and I had been having some troubles in our marriage and felt that we needed to sit down and have a long talk about what we wanted out of our life together and what needed to be changed in order to achieve this desired goal. It was the perfect time to openly speak of our troubles and found ways to work them out.
When it was time for us to leave, we packed up our things and put them in the trunk, I turned to my husband and told him there was one more place I wanted to go today. Getting in the car we began to drive further up into the mountains until we reached the main lookout. “Stop here!” I exclaimed with a soft smile upon my face. Tod pulled over giving me the funniest look, as we got out walking over to where others were looking at the view themselves.
The sun set high within a clear blue canvassed sky, the warm rays glistening off the vibrant green leaves of the trees that covered the high peaked mountains, it looked as if they could touch the clouds themselves. The sound of natures glory was all around us as the birds singing was like music to our ears, a soft gentle breeze would sweep through the mountains setting the scene as one of serenity and utter peace. Like a painter viewing his precious piece of art, we were looking at our Masters artwork, a little taste of what he made for us to enjoy.
“So beautiful.” I whispered then turned to my husband kissing him softly. God had not only shared with us a beautiful day, but a beautiful moment spent with the man I loved.
It was good to return back to our home, and I will always look back and remember that beautiful weekend.
