Where are you?
The day is beginning and already I don’t know where you are.
The lamp is lit,
The shawl is in place,
The book is beside me,
But where are you?
sit silently,
calling,
listening,
yearning,
reaching,
anxiously stirring….
Where are you?
Open the book and search the ancient past for mystic formulas:
seek the great presence,
talk with the great presence,
obey the great presence.
those who don’t, fail;
those who do, succeed.
those who don’t morn;
those who do, shout with glee.
So, where are you?
Search the ancient rituals,
Pace the echoing halls,
Sing the songs of royal pageantry,
And laments in lowing calls.
recite the prayers,
read the scriptures,
cogitate,
contemplate,
meditate,
HIKE!
Hmpf I say! Where the duce are you? Anybody home?
bow and kneel,
prostrate and grovel;
genuflect,
bend the neck,
bare the soul and moan….
Collapsed in exhaustion, my efforts have been worthless. Alone, my energies are scattered about me like corpses on a great battle field.
And a breeze springs up from a corner laughing uproariously at my lurid performance. Swirling across the room its reverberations vanish leaving an inscription in the dust:
“No one comes by Him except by Me…
Go and sin no more.”
