Carries a twig or a length of thread
That she will use to pad her nest
Providing her babes a place to rest.
The dirty snow slowly melting away,
Crocuses pushing up through the gray,
Green leaves appearing on trees of brown,
Moms pushing strollers all around town.
Spring peepers sing together at night
Announcing spring with all their might;
Mosquitoes, gnats, all kinds of pests -
Are they what signal the start of spring best?
Perhaps it’s kids playing in the park,
Begging “Please, can’t we stay out ‘til dark?”
“No homework, Mom, school’s almost out!”
Is that what spring is all about?
Or maybe the Harley Davidson crowd:
They’re revving their engines extra loud,
Sporting polished chrome and vests of leather,
So happy for the change in weather.
I notice new signs of life in the trees,
Fragrant flowers, the buzz of bees.
I breathe a deep breath and get ready to sneeze.
(Oh these blasted spring allergies!)
I get this urge to really go wild
And twirl and tumble and run like a child,
Fall on the grass and look up at the clouds;
Then get up and run again, laughing out loud.
But now I am grown and I can’t act this way.
(After all, what would dignified people say?)
So I sit here quietly – breathe deep, look above,
And give thanks to God for this Spring and His love.

The last to lines of the third verse dont work for me. Being picky as everything else is good.
