Twilight Years are often considered the ‘Golden Years.’ And they are sometimes the years of ‘Sweet Sorrow.” Twilight Years are definitely the years of wisdom.
‘Golden Years’ may be when you have the rewards of a long history of marriage to the sweetheart of your youth, or kids who are now grandparents and grandkids with children of their own making you a Great-Grandparent. You get to celebrate 50-year birthdays with your kids and 50-year “Golden Anniversaries’ with peers.
‘Sweet Sorrow’ may be when you watch the dying process of a loved one, be it a family member or friend. The marriage break-up of persons close to you is difficult. The older we become the more we see friends and family members pass on to their eternal reward. Many of our peers have difficult health issues they are dealing with on a daily basis and often lose their good quality of life.
Years of wisdom come from experience and ‘been-there-done-that’ situations – some experiences you’d like to repeat and others you’d like to forget. Confidence comes from surviving economic difficulties you thought you’d never survive…and you are still here to tell about it and encourage others in similar situations. Sharing with a young Mom that ‘this, too, shall pass’ as their child matures and learns by their mistakes while becoming wonderful adults with responsibilities and amazing accomplishments. Hopefully we’ve come to a gracious maturity that has allowed us to learn when to keep our mouth shut and not feel the need to spout about our personal knowledge and experience. We can listen with empathy as others share their concern or broken heart. With a gentle confidence we can pray for healing and strength through difficult situations that deal with physical, emotional or spiritual issues.
Awww! ‘The Twilight Years of Life’ are the best! Just live life to the max with a style that allows no inner condemnation. Peace and contentment can reign in our lives regardless of external situations.
