Topic: Twilight Years of Life (07/02/09)
Presence of God



Ups and downs are part of life. Though the actual reason for this is beyond the stretch of imagination, no one is exempted from experiencing both these sides of the coin of life. Nature has taught us explicitly that there is day and night in every body’s life. Twilight is the line drawn between day and night. Twilight in the morning is a great joy to people. It is a new day with new challenges and new promises. It assures light into the life of people. It brightens the soul and everything around. Twilight in the evening is just the opposite.

“He did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his household and everything he had”. I Chron. 13:13,14 (NIV). There was a dawn of twilight in the life of Obed Edom when he invited the presence of God to dwell with him. The last part of verse fourteen tells us that the Lord blessed him and everything he had because he invited the ark of God. Those three months were the twilight months of Obed’s life. When he allowed the ark of God into his house he allowed God, who is the light of the world, into his house. “In him was life, and that life was the light of men.” John 1:4(NIV). This light dispelled all the darkness in his life and brought peace and prosperity to him.

Life cannot be peaceful without light. We fail to come out of the fallen pit because we don’t invite the presence of God into our lives. So the night continues with darkness all around us. Twilight of hope in such cases is a distant reality.

There is darkness of sin ruling the lives of many. Twilight for them is only a dream. But that is not the end of life. If the presence of God is invited into their dark lives there is a hope for twilight. When Jesus the source of light comes into our lives then satan the source of darkness walks away from us because both light and darkness cannot stay together.

In regard with Obed Edom the ark was in his house only for three months. But we can keep the presence of God always with us and experience the blessings of God. And those will be the twilight years of our life.

Wonderful, uplifting devotional. I was especially touched by, "If the presence of God is invited into their dark lives there is a hope for twilight" and beautiful ending.
