Previous Challenge Entry (Level 1 – Beginner)
Topic: Bitter and Sweet (05/28/09)
Here for a brief moment!
Our years - Threescore and ten,
Or by reason of strength, maybe fourscore then.

We meander through early years-guilty and lost,
However, we don’t realize it;
Until we hear of Jesus and the cross.

Bitter! I had gotten use to the old life I knew.
Sweet! I don’t have to live in submission to the flesh,
Doing things I wish I would not do.

Saved by grace!
Now what am I supposed to do?
Bible study, prayer, and serving too!

Bitter! In my old life-I thought my time was mine own;
Sweet! I am learning to work for Christ while the sun is still shown.
The night is coming and all works will be manifested by light;
Works for vain glory will burn up,
Only what we do for Christ will suffice.

The years have slowed me down;
I can’t move nearly as fast.
Agility, dexterity, and flexibility are fondly remembered
As attributes from time past.

Getting older now…..enjoying my Christian shuffle.
Even on those days when aches and pains don’t dissipate,
Yet, on contrary…they seem to arise in huddles.

Well, I’ve come to the end of my life;
It’s time to close out this chapter.
Bitter! Leaving love ones here with tribulations and trials;
Sweet! Glory - the moment I close my laden eyes.

In His presence for all eternity;
Paul said it best, confessing…“I am in a strait betwixt two.”
To remain here to live for Christ;
To die – great gain to ensue!
Either way-SWEET!

Very enjoyable read! Great philosophy too! A few misspells and some other editing would smooth this out.

Good writing and thoughts. Keep up the writing.

Hi Tabitha. I just wanted to leave a quick note to let you know your entry, Obstacle (0f)course, actually did very well in the Bitter and Sweet Challenge. Although you didn't receive an award, you made it into the Highest Rankings for Level 1, placing 12th in that Level.

There were a lot of entries this week, particularly in Level 1, and the competition was even more intense than normal for that level, with the 1st and 2nd place winners making it into the Editor's Choice. The standard was exceptionally high. So you deserve a pat on the back. :-)
