One morning he was performing his usual ritual and noticed that there were grapes missing. He was so angry that he almost blew an artery in his head.
“Who would dare take a grape from here?”
He rushed to the security house to ask the guards if they have seen who have taken his grapes. But they could not help him, as no unusual people were passing throe the gates and they could find nothing wrong with the fences.
“So it must be an inside job.” He said to himself, and decided there and then to lay a trap for the thieves.
He started to plan and plan, his wife and daughter became concerned about him, as he would not leave his study to eat or drink.
Two nights later after more grapes went missing he laid his traps all over is vineyard, and waited. However nothing happened that night. Four nights past and still nothing happened. On the seventh night his trap went off and in it was two young students. The farmer recognized them as the young men who have been visiting his daughter.
“ I am going to report you to your dean!” He screamed at them, still very cross.
“No sir, please not that. We will be expelled and we promise never to eat grapes from your vineyard ever again. It is just that it is the best grapes we have ever tasted.”
The farmer felt a little flattered by this and he decided to give them a different kind of punishment, as they need to suffer for what they have done and hopefully learn something in the process.
“Ok, I will not go to your dean tonight, but you have to come and show me within seven day’s where it stands in the bible that it is all right to take grapes from another man.”
The farmer set them free and they thanked him and ran off to their car that was standing at the gates.
On the seventh day the two young men was back with red eyes and armed with the bible.
“Sir we found it” they said in a choir.
Quote from Deuteronomy 23:24
“ When you come into your neighbor’s vineyard, then you may eat of grapes your fill at your own pleasure; but you shall not put any in your vessel”
The farmer looked at them stunned, as he was not aware of this verse in the bible. And had no choice as to let the boy’s go.
One of the boys turned to the farmer who was still standing in his doorway and smiled.
“Thank you sir for the punishment that you gave us, I found God again and decided to become a preacher. I am just glad that something good came from the bad thing we did.”
