Topic: Home for Christmas (11/20/08)
It’s no secret that the holidays can either be a joyous time or a very lonely time for people. In fact, I have known both of these extremes in my own life, and now lie somewhere in the middle of the two. Coming from such a small, fragmented and disjointed family, the holidays can be bitter sweet for me. I know I am not alone in trying to prepare myself for the emotional and physical effort that lies ahead. Of course, I want to get it right this year…I want to be a Mary in a Martha world, but who then would cook, clean, decorate, host events, make gifts, wrap presents? Don’t you know, Lord, what it is like to live in this crazy deplorable world? Oh, why I guess you do. I sometimes forget that one of the very reasons you came to earth and lived as man was so that you could identify with and relate to every form of human temptation and struggle. I forget that the gift of your indwelling spirit offers me every freedom to find happiness and satisfaction while here on earth, even while I am cooking, cleaning and serving others. Not only have you saved me, Father God, but you just keep on giving amazing gifts to me as I open myself up to receive them. Your generosity knows no bounds as you lavish your love and favor on me! Now, I know that Christmas is a time for giving, and I plan to do my share….to give charitably to others and enjoy the celebration of the birth of my dear Savior. But, may I be so bold Lord as to ask you for a present this year? Not that you have not done enough for me already. In fact if I never received another thing from you, I would still have enough blessings to be thankful for, that they would last me until I finally make it to my final home. But Lord, I am learning to believe you for both the big things in life and the little things. This year, what I would like for Christmas more than anything is a home. That’s right, I want a home for Christmas. Now I am not talking about a house or any of the lovely things that I could fill a house with. No, I already have more than I need. What I want is a family who spends the day glorifying you. A family who puts aside their own agendas, past histories and hurts and comes together to praise your holy name. A home where my children witness the amazing peace and presence of the savior whose birth it is that we are celebrating. So Lord, please forego that camera that was on my list. I can do without that ipod (now that I actually know what one is!). Lord, what I would really like this year is a home for Christmas.

I like your thoughts and the dialog form that they take. Sometimes it seemed that you strayed just a bit to explain "to me" rather than keep on with your dialog with God - you didn't need to. Your dialog was great and flowed well on its own. Keep writing (and sharing it!)
