But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.*
When loved ones reject me
and colleagues despise me
When friends dislike me
and my own soul has loathed me,
yet this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
My soul He pursues; my core He embraces.
When sins have enslaved me
and shame has haunted me
When guilt has oppressed me
and fear has wrapped me,
yet this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
His mercies never come to an end,
His forgiveness, His cleansing, my heart He can mend.
When past pains have regained their hold
and yesterday’s failures have returned so bold
When abuses of the past have revisited my night
and agonies of the present have darkened my sight,
yet this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
His love and tender mercies are new every morning,
they cleanse, they heal, they soothe my soul, my strength’s returning.
When my nerves have now suffered decay
and my body has been wasting away
When illness is sapping my core
and death now knocks at the door,
this truth I’ll call to mind,
and therefore I always have hope:
Great is Your faithfulness;
You’re committed to my wellness;
You long for my wholeness.
You welcome me to glory!
Great is Your faithfulness,
So great is Your faithfulness, Oh Lord!
