“Brothers and Sisters in Christ”


How could it possibly be that Jesus is kin to me? The Lord Jesus himself says it as recorded in the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 12 and verse 50 “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Again, in the Gospel according to Mark, chapter 3 verse 35 “For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.”

As it is written, the Lord Jesus Christ places far more importance on spiritual relationships than he does on earthly relationships. As a Believer, I have brothers and sisters in Christ all over the world. It is the sacrificial love of Christ, that binds our hearts together as though we are one, heirs and joint-heirs with Christ.

Bill Gaither puts it best in the chorus of this old time favorite, “I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God”-

I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God
I’ve been washed in the fountain
And cleansed by His blood
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod
For I’m a part of the family
The family of God

I have a sister in Christ who lives on the west coast while I live on the east. Though we have never had the privilege of sharing a cup of coffee or a glass of ice tea, we know that life on this earth is but a vapor, one day we will have all of eternity! To my sister Mary Ann-

In my Father’s house are many mansions.
I hope yours is next to mine!
