Previous Challenge Entry (Level 1 – Beginner)
Topic: Illustrate the meaning of “A Bird in the Hand is Worth Two in the Bush” (without using the actual phrase or literal example). (01/10/08)
“That just means God must have something bigger and better waiting for us.” As I heard myself trying to comfort my husband again with this same line that I’ve used for the past few years, I began to wonder if this statement was true or if it really was just a “line”. I could see the frustration and disappointment on his face as he relived all the conversations that took place and decisions that he had made over the past few months to bring him to this place of pain now. Bitterness was gaining ground with each passing second and no comforting word from me would stand against it.
I had a hard time handling the news, myself. Why hadn’t he just taken the first job that was offered to him? Why did he hold out for the other? Bigger isn’t always better. No, questioning my husband was not going to help either one of us. I knew he needed my encouragement and my love, unconditionally. He was beating himself up bad enough. He didn’t need to be lashed by my tongue. That weapon has done enough damage in our marriage. Besides, when he came to me for advice months ago, I told him that I supported whatever decision he made. Now it was time to show him the support that I had pledged to him.
Promises are words pledged by people, which brings immediate fallibility to the process of making a promise. As humans, erred and sinful, we have a track record of not keeping our word. Yet, we are quick to pass up a “sure thing” and run toward a prize promised to us by people we don’t even know. We live in a culture that makes “deal or no deal” choices on a daily basis, gambling the very things we’ve worked hard to achieve.
As my husband continues searching for a job, a new passion has grown inside of me to appreciate the surety of the Word of God. In a world of uncertainty and broken promises, God’s Word stands true. While it was detrimental to our check book that we choose to pass up one solid job opportunity in hopes of an incredible offer to come, it would be even more harmful to turn from one of God’s promises to one made by man. God’s way is always better. His offers can be taken to the bank without a second thought. As we look forward to the door that God will open next in our lives, we are diligently preparing now to run right through it… regardless of how appealing a passing window salesman might make his product sound.

I like your title.
Putting an extra space between paragraphs helps the reader.
It's easy to use clichés, especially with these topics, but it makes your work more original if you avoid them.

This is very good writing and very well done. You changed tenses in the story several times - going from past perfect to present and then back again. You need to be more careful with this. Other than that, an excellent article! Keep up the good work!
