While our church attendance is in the thousands I do not know them all. I recognize many, but don’t know how they are doing. Nor do they know or even care about the trials I am facing. We go to church for the common goal of hearing The Good News, it cannot facilitate our need for connectivity. We cannot rely on the church to hold us accountable, to know our needs, to respond to our crisis. We must grow smaller.
Jesus preached to thousands, but ministered to a small group. He did not ask the city to pray for him, he asked his disciples. He knew their pride and held them accountable. While he himself could have handled thousands upon thousands, he knew we were watching. He knew he had to model what we should do. His true fellowship was with twelve, and yet he changed the whole world.
The best label that I’ve heard for the type of fellowship I have with my small group is “my 3 a.m. people”. The ones who will not only answer the phone and pray for you, but will also come to you when the walls come crashing down, even if it’s 3 a.m. They are the ones who’ve seen the house as it sometimes gets, they know you’re a grump sometimes, and that you don’t have it all together. They will listen to your problems, and hold you accountable to your own solutions.
While the 21st century has given us all the technology we need to stay connected, we need to look at the 1st century to really be connected. We must plug in to small groups of people who share our love for Jesus. We need to share our real life with real people.

I'm not familiar with the word "lojack", and when I looked it up online, I still couldn't figure out what it meant here. Did you mean a different word, or (more likely) am I hopelessly out of touch?
