So many souls that still don’t know you
I see them each day as I walk down the street
Signs saying I’ll work for food, I have nothing to eat
At first I was puzzled, I just didn’t see
What their situation had to do with me
There were plenty of agencies, with funds to give
They could show these people the best way to live
I wondered if some just wanted a fast buck
Or if they were needy and down on their luck
My child, said the Lord, I died for them too
Now let your light shine, let them see Me through you
So tomorrow, when I go out for my walk
I’ll wave to the beggar, and stop for a talk
I can give him a Bible , tell him God loves him so
He’ll never leave him, no matter where he goes
The old man looked startled as I started to speak
His gnarled hands were shaking, his body did reek
Did you know that God loves you and so do I?
The old man blinked and wiped a tear from his eye
I’m ashamed to be begging, the old man said with a sigh
My job was downsized and I never knew why
We had no savings, the cupboard grew bare
I felt so alone, no one seemed to care
So I made a sign, and came out to the street
I’ll work for food, I have nothing to eat
People would laugh as they passed left and right
I’m sure they just wanted me out of their sight
Let me leave you my card, and a Bible to read
Feel free to call me whenever you need
Here’s a weeks worth of food for your family to eat
No need to pay me, it will be my treat
It’s a brand new year and our work is not done
Not while there’s still one soul to be won
So let your light shine for the world to see
That living for Jesus will set your soul free
