Topic: Worship (corporate) (10/04/07)
"Cinda, I have something to tell you… Mattie likes me" spoke Nathan. Cinda jumped out of the bed naked, grabbed a towel from the bathroom and ran out onto the front porch calling for her cat. She shook with rage and bewilderment. Mattie was her best friend and Nathan was her husband.

"Calla, here Calla. . ." The beautiful Calico cat’s familiar bell was heard ringing as she let out a meow and approached her mistress. Calla’s coat was the color of pumpkins, midnight and snow and her soft fur soothed Cinda. "Oh Calla. . . "

Nathan now appeared at the doorpost. "I’m sorry Cinda." He handed her a robe. "Here, now put this on"
Cinda put the robe on as her mind spun out of control. She didn’t look at Nathan and she bowed her head Oh God what is this? What have I done . . .? What happened to my dream…?

"Have you kissed her?"
"Yes."
Cinda wept aloud. "Go away!” Calla struggled in Cinda’s arms.
"Cinda I can’t…I love you."
"You love me…how could you?"

The telephone inside the house began ringing, which was strange at such a late hour. It was 11 o’ clock. Nathan stepped back inside the house and answered the phone.
Cinda called out, "I refuse to talk to Mattie!" Calla hopped off of Cinda’s lap.
"It’s Tillie."
"Oh!"

Cinda quivered and felt sick to her stomach when her fingers touched Nathan’s as she took the phone from his hand. Nathan watched Cinda’s reactions in agony. God, my dumb mistake is hurting her so much! She is crumbing before my eyes. Oh God, heal her and strengthen our marriage and keep us from divorce!

"Tillie, you know how I told you that I kept sensing that someone was stealing something from me? Well, now I know who. Mattie likes Nathan."
"Oh dear" spoke Tillie in her older wise way.
"And I don’t know what to do!"
"Cinda, does Nathan want to stay with you?"
"Yes. He says he loves me. Can you believe that?"
"Yes, it was a mistake. He got too close to Mattie and thought he could handle it. But, listen, as someone who has walked through divorce, you don’t want that. You need to fight for you husband."
"I do?"
"Yes, you do dear." Tillie was already praying for the couple as she spoke. Dear God, heal this couple and don’t let divorce come their way... "And your husband needs to stop all contact with Mattie."
"Yes, I agree."
"And the two of you need to hold each other."
"Me hold him?

Sunday morning came and Nathan and Cinda attended their small red brick church. As Nathan found their usual pew he thanked God that Cinda had stayed with him the night before and held him. He told God "that was a true act of worship and Cinda was never more beautiful. Thank you for Cinda and her willingness to stay with me despite my stupid mistake." He smiled sweetly to Cinda. She looked into his eyes.

As Tillie sat down in a pew a few rows from the couple she spoke a scripture verse aloud. "I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and train of his robe filled the temple. Fill this temple Lord!”

The pastor asked everyone to stand and he prayed that everyone today would truly be able to worship. Then he started the first verse of an old familiar hymn.

The Spirit of God came and Cinda heard whispers that told her "Hold on Cinda, Hold on! My Power is made perfect in weakness." Cinda’s eyes filled with tears. Jesus help! This hurts but, I’m listening to you. She reached for Nathan’s hand as they sang.

The little church was full of many singers that day and everyone attending was touched by the warmth and sweetness. In all their magnificence standing directly behind Cinda and Nathan stood three angles singing and saying repeatedly "He knew, He knows, He cares for you!"

I really enjoyed this story! The vivid dialogue brings both characters to life. Some vivid descriptions in here too. My favorite is that of the cat Calla, her fur the colors of "pumpkins, midnight,and snow." I can just see her! Great use of the cat, by the way, as a form of comfort and distraction for the distraught wife.

In the last paragraph, "angles" should be spelled "angels."

Great title--it caught my attention, as a title with a personal name always sparks my curiosity.
