TITLE UNITED WE STAND
Sandy was sad even though she had her parents beside her with her birthday presents and cake. The doctor had restricted the number of visitors and would make no exception on her birthday. Sandy lay in bed and imagined what happened during her parties the previous years. There were decorations, great food, her friends, the games, the presents and all the family including grandparents. The kids often dressed up in costumes and they had a wonderful time. Today Sandy was confined to a hospital bed and had to celebrate with no friends around her, only Mom and Dad. The three of them prayed and lit the birthday candles. A few tear drops ran down her cheeks as she thought of her friends. Mom helped her open the presents and read the cards.
There was a knock on the door and in came the doctor.
“The test results have come out normal and you will be allowed to go home soon”. Those words were music in her ears.
This incident is so true in the spiritual realm. Many are accustomed to church and spending time with others in worship. The congregation sing, pray and worship as a body and thus encourages one another. Just as the live coals in a cooking grill, unite and glow, we support each other. But pick up one live coal and put it outside, it will soon become black and cold. This is just what happens when corporate worship is neglected.
Reading the Bible, prayer and singing of spiritual songs can all be done during personal bible study anywhere. But the spiritual blessings that God bestows during corporate church worship when we bless His Holy Name are immeasurable. The organization and the church building are not what is important, but the group of living believers who meet as the body of Christ, the Organism.
When we pray together we learn to love and share. Bible studies become so much more meaningful when we indulge in group discussions. When Bible teachers divide God’s word the whole congregation can benefit from the exhortation. Music and singing are so uplifting when we make a joyful noise together unto Him. We do not have to always worship inside the church complex, we can worship our Heavenly Father anywhere. The Bible says,
“Where two or three are gathered in My Name there am I in their midst.”
Sandy enjoyed her parties when she celebrated her birthday with her friends. It was much more than the cake and presents. We as believers need to be together to worship, praise and adore Him. The corporate worship binds us together in His love and assures us that we are united in Him and are a part of each other not for time but for eternity. The bible clearly teaches us not to forsake the gathering of the saints and to encourage one another in the Lord.
