Previous Challenge Entry (Level 1 – Beginner)
Topic: Calm (emotionally) (09/13/07)
It was nine minutes past seven a.m. I had worked the previous afternoon nonstop, late into the night, and rose several hours before dawn to finish that time consuming article. I was very pleased with this particular piece I tediously labored over for so many hours. But it was worth it. The finished product was one I felt very confidant about, and was excited to see what kind of response I might receive. Unfortunately, though, I had unknowingly grown a little vain about that particular work; perhaps quite a little prideful.

Opening the desktop files for my document, I multi-tasked to find my desired website, and clicked the yellow highlighted link flashing “Writing Challenge,” anxious to submit my entry.

Stomach-sinking, heart-freezing, blinking pause.

What? How could that be! “This week’s topic is ‘Calm (emotionally)’”! With one entry? Nooo!!! It was supposed to be “Surprised”!

Glancing again at the clock with a desperately sick, yet raging, frustrated feeling, I quickly did the math…Colorado…two hours behind…that made it nine-ten a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

My insides boiled with anger and wanted to explode in a million different directions. But something cool and quiet caused me to breathe in and out, easy-like. Contented peace poured over me, flood my immense frustration. Unexpected calm and collected, I silently reclined against my bed and seemingly out of no where recalled a certain line a lovely mother figure from my past used to quote:

“Life is made of disappointments,” she had said, “so what are you going to do with them? Will take your lemons of life and furiously demolish them? Or can you joyfully prepare them with His precious mercy, and turn them into lemonade?”

Oh no! This must be every FaithWriters worst nightmare! You did a good job describing the emotion you experienced. (This is a true story, right?)

I hope you still submitted the story into other areas on this site.

This is a very unique story for "calm". Good work!
