After we went inside, we found that Beth’s grandma had thankfully stocked the refrigerator with plenty of food. We were trying to figure out if we should have pizza, hot dogs, macaroni, or buffalo chicken wings when we spotted the cookie dough ice cream. We ate the entire gallon together that night.
For about an hour, we were complete spazzes. We wrestled with each other, and played a game where one of us would pretend to be the babysitter, and the rest of us would try to annoy her to death, and jumped on the beds and couches.
Five minutes later, we were all on the floor, moaning about our stomach aches. I think we ended up sleeping on the floor that night.
The next morning, we made shake-em-doughnuts. If you’ve never had shake-em-doughnuts, you’ve never had a real doughnut. Apparently, when you stick biscuit dough in Crisco oil, it turns into a doughnut hole. When you put that into powder sugar and shake it up real well, you get one of the most fabulous donuts you will ever taste.
By the time we had stuffed ourselves and had a sugar throwing fight, the entire kitchen looked like it was covered in snow. We grabbed cleaning supplies and were able to clean the entire kitchen in thirty minutes flat.
We hurried upstairs and put on our bathing suits and headed down to the beach. For almost three hours, we played in the ocean, sun-bathed, and ate off the vegetable tray Beth’s grandma had pre-made for us.
Around lunch time, we headed downtown to grab lunch and window shop. After window shopping, we decided we wanted to do some real shopping, so we went back to the house to grab our money. By the time we found our money, it was pouring, so walking back was a definite no.
We went into the theater room and watched a romantic comedy. We went back down to the beach to soak up a little more sun, swam around, built sandcastles, looked for shells, and Katherine almost stepped on a jellyfish. She screamed, but said that it just surprised her. She wasn’t scared of a jellyfish.
The next three days went a lot like that, but it never got boring. The fourth day, we discovered a tennis court and played for an hour. Katherine and I weren’t that bad, and Renee was amazing, but we quickly discovered that Kelly and Beth had no talent.
That day at the pool, we also discovered a cute guy that owned a room on the second floor. He came over and flirted with us for a bit, and when we left for our room, his sister caught us on the elevator and asked about us.
The rest of the time we were there, we looked for him. He met us at the beach a few times, and he and his friends just so happened to show up at the same restaurant as us the last night.
The week went by way to fast, and before we knew it, we had to pack for the next day.
The morning that we were supposed to leave, we all decided to get up early and have one last walk on the beach. We watched the sunset and then went out in the water. While we were out wading in the water, a dolphin came up to us and let us touch it. I’m not sure if we could have gotten some disease by touching a wild dolphin, but we didn’t really care at the time.
Katherine brought her guitar (I know, who brings their guitar with them on vacation?) down to the beach and we sang praise songs to Jesus for thirty minutes. We knew we had to get going, but none of us wanted to ruin the moment.
College would change our friendship. No matter what, what we had was special; something a lot of other friendships seemed to lack these days.
One special Friend that brought us together, and would keep us together even when we were apart.
