Squeezing her temples with the heels of her hands, she closed her eyes so tightly, and strained so hard that she began to see fireworks behind her eyelids. She had hoped this gesture would bring on a vision of the item’s location. All it did was bring on a headache. This was serious, very serious. Pack your bags and move to Timbuktu with no forwarding address, serious. Maybe she should look into the witness protection program. How could she tell him? Perhaps it had been stolen, but when, and by whom? Pirates? She felt guilty for even briefly hoping that pirates had invaded her home, and robbed her of her treasure. No, it had not been stolen, she knew, but it was definitely gone.
The big day was just two days away, and she was about to ruin it. Surely there was a way around telling him until after. She had convinced herself that she was doing him a favor. Sure! After all, he was looking forward to their plans to celebrate their twentieth anniversary as much as she, maybe more. If she told him now, it would just spoil everything. She would just have to figure out a way around it for the time being.
For the next two days, while at home alone during the day, she systematically disassembled the house in search of the missing treasure. She was like a detective on a case, searching for clues. The space under the couch in the family room delivered the most unique finds, although not the treasure she sought. There were six cheerios, a Darth Vader action figure, and a Barbie doll head (No body, just a head. Was Vader looking a bit guilty?), and a half eaten Granny Smith apple. Ick.
That was it. After two days of searching, she was no closer to finding out what happened to it than she was when she discovered it missing. Some detective she turned out to be. Now her time was up. Standing there, all dressed up in the perfect little black dress; she was going to have to tell him. They had said goodbye to the sitter and the kids, and were walking out to the car. She should have been excited, but instead she was filled with dread. How could she have let this happen?
Summoning her strength, she whispered a prayer, and wheeled around to face her husband and confess that some way, some how her treasure was inexplicably gone. As she faced him, she noticed a slight smirk on his face, and a bit of an upturn at one corner of his mouth. She looked down, and in his hand rested an open ring box. In the box was her missing engagement ring, only different. Gasp! The stone, the stone was…huge! He moved in close, took the ring, and placed it on her trembling finger, once again.
Then he spoke into her ear, “Didn’t you know I’ve always been crazy? I’ve always been crazy about you. Happy anniversary, honey.”
As her husband enveloped her in his arms, she lifted her eyes heavenward and whispered, “thank you.” For what was lost, had been found.

But a very good story anyway.
