The sun shied away in its usual corner by the lake, where I lived. I snuggled under a bunch of weeds around me, to keep the moon from disturbing my rest. As my body sank in the muddy trench, my heart sank in grief at the thought, “Nobody needs me, I am useless”. This had been my life for the past 15 years, by the same lake, until one day, when everything changed.
It was a lazy afternoon, everybody was busy bathing themselves in their suntan lotion and generally plopping wastefully away, another day in their life in the murky waters. “Come join us, Miry”, they called. I had had enough of this reckless, superficial and redundant lifestyle, and so I didn’t, but waited by the trench gate, hoping and praying for a dubious chance at life- real life. As the sun glowed hotter and warmed my cold and slimy carcass, my wet eyes lazily dropped their lids and I was swished away to sleep.
“Thud”, something hit me. “Oh that hurts”,I moaned. Absolutely enraged at being rudely awakened from my nap, I fluttered my eyes open to find myself sitting on solid ground. “Where am I?”, I whispered., “This isn’t my lake”. My heart skipped many beats, as it slowly digested the seeming fact, “I must be dead”.
I was jolted off my train of thoughts, by streams of fresh water flowing down my head. “This must be heaven”,I guessed. I had never tasted water, so fresh and living before- it felt like life. I thirstily soaked myself, into every bit of it. “Is this real life?”, I wondered. I was getting dizzy with the myriad of thoughts revolving my mind, to the effect that I felt myself revolving. No wait, I was actually rotating.
“Somebody help me, please!”, my voice pierced through, what seemed like eternity. “Stop this thing, this life or whatever it is, I am dizzy, I want to get out”, I cried out as loud as my lungs could bear. Nobody answered- except, a gentle hand that touched my head, as if to say “Be not afraid, for I am with you”. I couldn’t see the hand, as I was so dazed with the spinning, but I sure knew inside my being, it was there to help me.
What seemed like a lifetime of spinning and getting drunk on fresh water, finally ended and I had my first chance to look at the person whose hands had gently guided me through the whole ordeal. He looked so bright and radiant, “the Morning Star!!” I silently exclaimed.
“Thank you”, I said..
“You are most welcome little one”, He replied. His gentle voice, though seemed like thunder, was ever so soft.
“Who are you, and where am I ?”, I enquired, as He put me down beside beautifully carved beings, each one so unique.
In response to my query, He stooped down to my level, looking ever so closely at me, with His big lovely eyes, and said , “I am the Potter, and this is my workshop.”
As I stared into His loving eyes, I saw on it the most beautiful reflection I had ever seen. A reflection of me - so intricately and wonderfully made.
My eyes welled up with tears of gratitude and joy, at the wonderful work this Craftsman had done on me. I sang a new song, compelled by the newfound life, as He put down His signature on my heart -“Jesus”.
