My life is so busy these days. There are so many demands, and so little time. It had been one of those days, when you can just feel the mercury level rising minute by minute on your stress level thermometer; that is when the telephone rang. It was only the 400th time it had ringed this morning. I remember thinking, what now? I already thought I had dealt with all the problems that could possible arise, in fact, I was sure that I had already spoken to every single customer that we had. I reluctantly brought the telephone to my ear. I could not believe the voice that responded on the other end. It was a voice I had not heard in years, but was still very familiar. It was my best friend from childhood Jim. Immediately my mind began to race with questions and wonderful memories. Jim told me he was in town for a short while and wanted to know if I would meet him. I said, “Of course,” and asked where and what time. I was so surprised when he said. “Meet me at Miller’s pond as soon as possible.” I reluctantly agreed, realizing that I would have to stay late when I got back to finish my workload after our visit. Miller’s Pond was our favorite hang out as kids, and so many of my favorite memories were there. There were things I had not thought of in years.
I remember being so excited about seeing Jim as I made the short drive out on Hwy 7. I was so surprised when I got out of vehicle and saw Jim standing there decked out from head to toe in his fishing gear, and to top it off he was holding two poles, a huge tackle box, and a picnic lunch. What was I going to do? I didn’t have time for this nonsense. What on earth did he have up his sleeves?
After the initial greeting, I could help but ask him what on earth he was doing. That’s when he told me. He said, “John, my boss asked me to come and visit you.” I of course was more confused that ever. That’s when he set me down and explained that he himself didn’t know why exactly he was here, only that his boss had sent him. Of course I had to ask him, who in the world his boss was? He jumped right in at that opportunity to tell me that several years ago; he had accepted a call into the ministry. He had quit his job working for a major corporation making the big bucks to go into the Lord’s work. He explained that his stress level had been so high and that he never felt any peace in his life until he made the move that God had led him to. Jim told me that his life was now full of joy and peace. He also told me that he God had impressed on him that today he should meet me and take me fishing, just like we used to do when we were kids. Jim asked me, “John, do you remember the hours that we spent here, and the fun that we had, just two boys and two fishing poles?” As I talked to Jim, the memories began to flood back into my mind. The days he spoke of, were the best I had ever had in my life. I had forgotten how peaceful it was out here. At the close of that wonderful reunion between friends that afternoon, I had the most peaceful feeling I have had in my heart in years. With Jim’s help, I renewed my relationship with God that day, and received a greater perspective on how I should look at life. I always try to remember that there is nothing this world can toss my way that a “Gone Fishing” sign on my door and little communion with God can’t handle.

If you re-visit this, consider writing it more as a short story, with separated dialog, descriptive action, etc. That might involve your readers a bit more than a narrative such as this.
It's wonderful, the way the Lord will bring a certain person to mind.
