Topic: Missionary (10/19/06)
They can hear it before they can see it. Is it a truck or a car? No, the high pitch whine sounds like a much smaller engine. The boys stop kicking their coconut soccer ball. The girls stop sifting the rice. The toothless dark skinned woman stops puffing on her pipe. And the men put down their heavy loads of bamboo. They can all see the motorcycle now and they stand like statues with eyes wide open, waiting to see where it will stop and who will appear. A cloud of dust chases and engulfs them all as the engine stops and the silence becomes unbearable. The dust settles and the helmet is removed to reveal a nearly six foot tall blonde haired, blue eyed American lady. She smiles and displays a mouth full of beautiful straight white teeth. Then she greets them in a familiar language but with a tone they have never heard before. They are all drawn to her like humming birds to a beautiful red flower, each taking their turn drinking in her words. This is only the beginning of a lifetime of stories waiting to be told.

This is based on true stories and dedicated to my sister, a career missionary in an unreached land.

I love your descriptions here--both of the villagers and of the visiting missionary lady. You made them all colorful, unique, and interesting--especially with such unusual specifics as the missionary woman being nearly six feet tall. I could see both her and the villagers, and felt as though I were there!

Would have liked to have read more about them.

This was beautiful, short and sweet! Loved the part with the motorcycle.

Just a tip-add a few spaces next time for easier reading!
