Topic: Police (10/12/06)
The mere thought of an authoritarian figure sends shivers down my spine. I envision a large looming figure with an imposing frown and a gun in his hand; ready to mete out justice to an outlaw for any slight infraction.
I often ask myself who will police the police? Policing is an art but sometimes many policemen find it difficult to manage the power bestowed upon them.
The tenets of christianity are attempted in the motto of the Bahamas police force. It states "to serve and protect." How can ungodly policemen and women carry out these duties in these days of notorious crimes that are frightening and destroying the mere fabric of society?
I hereby contend that policing the police is of utmost importance if societies are to survive the onslaught of crime.
A change of heart developed by frequent spiritual training can assist every rank of officer to carry out his/her duties without fear or favor. They will then be held blameless in the sight of the public.
