A roadway visage bright
The weary world's lone desire
Shines forth from Mary's child.
But times are filled with few who listen
And fewer who believe
It is the job of preacher men
To lead and not deceive.
A firebrand plucked from fire
A spark from Castle Church
The lantern passed through centuries
To shed His light on earth.
In modern times in pulpits near
And also far away
There is a plague of liars
That breeds a slow decay.
The watchwords of the high-nosed throngs
Are tolerance and children's rights
It is their hope that by their words
All wrongs will turn aright.
But evil is as evil does
And in a fallen world
Evil must some be battled
With fire and with sword.
Presently the eternal torch
Is burning far too dim
It waits a coming preacher man
To kindle it again.
